When you’re building a swimming pool, several building inspections are required along the way. In this article, we’ll explain what those inspections are, why they’re important, how AQUAVIX prepares for them, and what you need to do as a homeowner.
Why Building Inspections Matter
Every phase of swimming pool construction must meet strict building code requirements. City or county building inspectors review the work at several stages, ensuring the pool is safe, compliant, and built to last. These inspections are a good thing: they safeguard your interests as a homeowner and confirm that your pool builder is delivering work that meets or exceeds regulatory standards.
What to Expect During Inspections
At AQUAVIX, we’ve developed a clear and professional system to make inspections smooth and efficient. Here’s how we do it when building inspections are scheduled:
- Permit Documents – We place your approved permits and related documents in waterproof containers on a folding table at the job site.
- Inspection Signage – We add signs to clearly mark access to the work area so city inspectors can enter without disruption.
- Follow-Up – After each inspection is complete, we remove the table, signage, and documents within a day or two.
This level of organization is part of our commitment to giving clients the best construction experience.
Timing of Inspections
When we schedule an inspection, we know the date it will take place, but not the time of day. Inspectors set their own routes and arrive when their schedule allows.
For most inspections, we don’t need to be physically present — the inspector has everything needed onsite. However, if there’s a specific detail to review or a point we want to discuss directly, we’ll request a time window from the city so that one of our representatives can be there to meet the inspector.
How Many Inspections Are There?
Inspections vary by jurisdiction, but typically include:
- Dewatering inspection
- Main drain plumbing inspection
- Steel reinforcement inspection
- Shell bonding inspection
- Underground plumbing inspection
- Underground electrical inspection
- Deck bonding inspection
- Deck structural inspection
- Grading inspection before landscaping
- Final electrical and child safety inspection
- Final plumbing inspection
- Final zoning inspection
- Final building inspection
Each inspection must be passed before moving to the next phase of construction.
No Action Required From You
Clients often ask if they need to be present for inspections. The answer: no action is required on your part. We handle all scheduling, preparation, and follow-up, coordinating directly with the city or county to make sure everything is approved before moving forward.
City Notifications
In certain municipalities, such as the City of Hollywood, inspection results are automatically emailed to both the contractor and the homeowner. If you receive one of these emails, please note: you do not need to forward it to us. We receive the same notifications and respond promptly to any corrections, if required.
Our Commitment to Keeping You Informed
At AQUAVIX Pools, one of our cornerstone principles is clear client communication. Even though inspections are handled entirely by our team, we believe you should always know what’s happening at your property.
