Your Swimming Pool Construction Journey: What to Expect from Start to Finish

This article provides a big-picture overview of AQUAVIX’s pool construction process — from the first scoop of soil to your first swim. If you’re an AQUAVIX client, you’ll receive weekly updates as we progress through the build, each linking to a detailed article about the phase we’re in. If you’re exploring AQUAVIX for your project, this overview will give you a clear sense of the quality, structure, and attention to detail you can expect from us.

Construction Phases at a Glance

Our pool construction process is organized into four main construction phases, followed by pool start-up and client orientation. Here’s what each phase includes and a general idea of how long it typically lasts. Timeframes indicated below are typical but can vary depending on pool size and configuration, site conditions, weather, building inspections, and client-related delay.

Our weekly updates will outline any actions needed from you to help avoid delays. Reading these updates and following through on any requests in them is how you can help keep your project on track.

C1 — Excavation (2-3 Weeks)

We prepare the site and dig the pool to its exact shape and depth. This includes installing erosion controls, confirming utility markings, and using heavy equipment to dig the pool cavity and remove soil.

When required by the plans, demolition of existing structures, removal of existing trees, relocation of sanitary lines, and installation of piles are also completed in this phase.

Shoring and dewatering are performed during excavation when needed to maintain safety and stability.

C2 — Shell Construction (2-3 Weeks)

We construct the pool’s structural shell. This includes forming, installing steel reinforcement, running pre-concrete plumbing, installing bonding, shooting the concrete (shotcrete), and ensuring it cures to full strength.

C3 — Underground Plumbing & Backfills (3-4 Weeks)

We dig trenches to the pool equipment area, install underground plumbing for the pool’s circulation and filtration systems, install underground electrical conduits for the pool lights, backfill the trenches and around the pool, and grade the deck area. This phase sets up the infrastructure for the finishes to come.

C4 — Equipment Installation & Finishing (5–6 weeks)

We apply waterline tile and coping, and prepare the interior surface for plastering. If a deck is included in your scope of work, it is installed during this phase. In parallel, we install and connect the pool equipment to the electrical power supply. Finally, we apply the pool plaster, completing the construction phase of your pool. We start filling up the pool immediately after the completion of plastering.

In total, it takes approximately 12-16 weeks from the beginning of excavation to pool fill up. Again, this timeframe is typical but can vary depending on pool size and configuration, site conditions, weather, building inspections, and client-related delays.

At the end of Phase C4, the construction work per se is done, but the pool is not yet ready for swimming. The pool start-up process comes next.

S1 — Start-Up & Orientation (4 weeks)

We fill the pool, start and adjust the equipment, and perform a 4-week start-up program consisting of gradual chemical balancing and regular brushing of the pool plaster surface to ensure proper curing during this critical post-fill period. Your pool will then be ready for swimming. We conclude with a one-on-one orientation to show you how to operate your pool and request warranty service if needed.

How We’ll Keep You Updated

At the start of each new phase or stage, you’ll receive a detailed article explaining what’s about to happen, with photos or videos from past projects for your reference. We’ll provide key Tips on access and safety, and will highlight any actions you’ll need to take to keep the process moving smoothly

Your Role in the Process

Our weekly updates will outline any actions needed from you to help avoid delays. Reading these updates — and following through on any requests in them — is one of the best ways you can help keep your project on track. Small actions like clearing access and securing pets can help us save days in the schedule.

Next Step: Site Preparation

The first step in the pool construction process is the Job Site Preparation, in which we set up the work area and prepare for excavation.
